TAROE is committed to providing a website that is accessible to everyone.
The site has undergone stringent testing and validation with internationally recognised standards bodies notably conforming to W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, Level A, this means that wherever possible, techniques have been used in the design to enable visitors with disabilities to get full use of the site.
This includes but not limited to those with disabilities such as:

The user is able to take advantage of pre-defined Keyboard Access Keys to allow them to navigate to the main areas of the website.
At present, only Microsoft Internet Explorer supports keyboard shortcuts and using them depends upon what type of operating system you use.
Windows based computers Pressing Alt and the Keyboard Access Key will highlight that specific link on the page. If you then press the Enter key, you will be taken to that page.
Macintosh based computers Pressing Ctrl and the Keyboard Access Key will automatically send you to that specific page.

All navigation and other links are accessible via the user pressing the Tab key, if this key is pressed then the next available link is highlighted, the user can then simply press the Enter key to visit that page.
If the mouse is placed over one of the main navigation links, then a small text window appears with a brief description of where the navigation link will go.
All links on this site, navigation or otherwise are always underlined and are in bold text, this helps those visitors to the site who are colour blind.
The website has been verified to be suitable for viewing by those who suffer with different levels of colour blindness, the Vischeck tool has been used which is a way of showing you what web pages look like to someone who is colour blind.
The default text size on this website can be changed at any time by selecting one of the text options that can be found just underneath the TAROE logo on each page.
The text options are: Normal, Large and Extra Large
Once a visitor has changed the text size, this setting is 'remembered' and set when they next visit the TAROE site.
This website has been fully tested using the most popular screen reading software available, JAWS.
JAWS is supplied by Freedom Scientific, and once installed on a users computer, can 'read' the contents of this and other websites outputting the text through any installed speaker system.
To enable blind visitors to visualise any images on this website, alternative text has been supplied for photos etc. this is shown by moving your mouse over an image, a small window will appear that will describe the image, screen reading software will read out this text to the visitors speakers.
This website does not use any images that would possibly cause distress to anyone suffering from epilepsy or similar disabilities.
These would include images that automatically changed such as animation.
This website has been tested to work correctly with commercially available text only browsers, for example Lynx.
This site does not spawn any new browser windows when a link is clicked, this is so that blind users can keep track of which window they are currently in. |
